Christian Dior

Christian Dior was a French couturier, best known for his eponymous fashion house which is often referred to as Dior. Born in Normandy in 1905, he was one of five children, when aged five, he moved with his family to Paris. Dior was naturally very creative and artistic and sold many of his early sketches on the street for a little extra money. In 1940 Christian Dior was called for military service and at the end of his service in 1942, he began working for couturier Lucien Long, where he and Pierre Balmain were the primary designers.
He founded the legendary House of Christian Dior on December 16, 1946 at 30 Avenue Montaigne Paris, and officially showcased his first collection in 1947. In 1948, Dior opened the doors to a luxury ready-to-wear house on the corner of 5th Avenue and 57th Street in New York and it was the first of its kind. That same year, he launched Dior Parfums – with Miss Dior (named after his sister) being the first fragrance to launch, and Diorama launching the following year. These fragrances revealed the important role of fragrance for Mr. Christian Dior, as the final touch to his dresses. Not only was fragrance very important for him, he also believed that fragrance should express the same image of quality and creativity as his dresses. In 1954 a timeless lipstick was born, and it still incarnates refined elegance today, later, Dior launched a complete makeup range. For the last 40 years, the Christian Dior Research Laboratories have aimed to take skincare products to new heights of refinement, excellence and performance.
